album review: Teenage Fantasy - Secret and Whisper

by everydayfalcon April 13, 2010

label: Tooth & Nail Records
release date: 04/06/10
genre: alternative rock/post-hardcore

straight up, Secret and Whisper is one of my favourite bands so i was super excited to hear about a new release only a couple months after i discovered them // this being their second album, ive done about 4 complete play throughs to try and make this as honest as possible // so Secret and Whisper has some crazy high pitch lyrics coupled with some seriously heavy guitar work to create a hardcore rock sound that is still amazingly melodic, it’s awesome how even during the most intense vocals the music doesnt lose its flow and power //
something i really liked about this album was the noticeably more powerful riffs and heavy tones throughout the whole of Teenage Fantasy which i thought were a definite improvement to their last record // the album steps up the post-hardcore feel which in a weird way reminds me of rise against and it completely appealed to the kind of music which i enjoy the most // however, even though the music was so much better, throughout the cd i felt that Secret and Whisper failed to deliver a standout epic single like XOXOXO on Great White Whale even though songs like Youth Cats totally had me hooked //
finally, the whole album gives off these native vibes while commenting on the conflicts and problems of youth today and how we deal with them in faith // awesome album and Secret and Whisper delivers again

album review: Me in Motion - Me in Motion

by everydayfalcon April 1, 2010

label: Centricity Records
release date: 03/23/10
genre: rock/pop rock

wow so no posts in a super long time // well, i found this band a couple days ago, and after they did a bunch of promo for their new album i thought that id check them out // starting a strong opening with the song losers, Me in Motion is continually expressing this honest enthusiasm that evens out as the album continues, and yet the band never stops showing that strong emotion and love for God // Me in Motion has a pure, simple rock sound that a lot of people arent used to nowadays, something which i think appeals to some and is a turn off to others //
i thought that some of the lyrics felt cliche in parts of the album and i caught myself i literally stopping a couple times to think, “did he really just say that?” // therefore i dont think those into deep, elaborate and metaphorical songs dealing with struggling with sin and faith will find what they are looking for in Me in Motion // however, i do think that in this album you will find cheerful songs full of energy and simple love for God // so in conclusion, Me in Motion is a really encouraging album that will brighten anyone’s day but avoid it if you’re looking for something more in depth and that deals with the tougher subjects in life and in faith

I HATE RELIGION (part II)

by elitistjerk March 22, 2010

Okay, remember when i asked whether you guys hated religion or not. Alot of you said no.

Heres my explanation before I get totally flamed and burned for being a heretic.

Religion is bad. Religion is a strict set of rules which you MUST follow or you will be punished and condemned to death. Religions are what starts conflicts between between and causes hate. Christianity is NOT a religion. Christianity promotes love and forgiveness, does that sound like a religion to you. Sure we are technically regarded as a “religious group” but we are more like a family in Christ. Its more-so a relationship between The god-head and you.

Thats some food for thought.

album review: Pieces of a Real Heart - Sanctus Real

by everydayfalcon March 17, 2010

label: Sparrow Records
release date: 03/09/10
genre: pop rock

So on my trip to the Seattle Dare2Share conference, we stopped by to the outlets and naturally the first stop for me was the christian outlet where i purchased two cds, Hello Hurricane by Switchfoot =D and this one, Pieces of a Real Heart by Sanctus Real //

Sanctus Real has been around on the christian music scene for a while now but ive only started listening to them recently with their last cd, We Need Each Other // Now, after listening to their previous music, i really enjoyed Pieces of a Real Heart // in an ever increasing pop sound, Sanctus Real exhibits some of their best ability to date with an album that i found inspiring in an almost praise and worship kind of way // several times you hear a bit of the old band come in on truly spectacular songs such as take over me and i want to get lost that have a really smooth rock sound that ive come to love, while most of the other tracks on the album i think will appeal greatly to easy pop sound listeners // in overall song quality i thought Sanctus Real has again proved that they are constantly out to improve the music they make and become stronger in their faith, i can really tell the difference in the new music and how much more powerful and emotional their music has become //

i really liked the lyrics on this album, at times the connections with personal problems and issues were real and the pureness of the words they sing really strike me, the song keep my heart alive really shows this //

Take these empty hallelujahs
Fill my lungs again
Cuz I wanna sing
And I wanna mean it

I wanna feel again

//the band obviously put a lot of time into making this a powerful album and i would definitely recommend this to pop and casual pop-rock fans//

God created us to be with him

Our sins seperate us from God

Sins cannot be removed by good deeds

Paying the price for sin, Jesus died and rose again

Everyone who trusts in Him alone has eternal life

Life with Jesus starts now and lasts forever
